Breeders Guidelines for the Alaskan Klee Kai National Kennel Club
Responsible breeders feel that the welfare of the breed in general and their Klee Kai in particular comes before any other consideration to do with their interest in the Klee Kai.
1. They use for breeding
only Klee Kai registered with the Klee Kai National Kennel Club (KKNKC).
2. They are to breed no Klee Kai with any inherited problems which can be
foreseen.
3. They do not breed any animal known to have disqualifying or disabling
defects.
4. They register each litter with the Klee Kai National Kennel Club (KKNKC).
5. They maintain complete breeding records.
6. They do not provide any Klee Kai to pet shops or other commercial
establishments: nor do they sell or provide puppies for resale: nor do they
sell or donate any Klee Kai to be auctioned or raffled.
7. They do not allow any puppy to leave its dam and littermates before the age
of 8 weeks, except when being placed with the cooperative who is training and
placing the puppy.
8. Before departure to it's new home they have each puppy checked by their
veterinarian for internal and external parasites and general health. They have
each puppy inoculated at least once against distemper, Corona, Parvo-virus.
Some breeders will attend to these matters themselves. In either case a
certificate attesting to the health of the puppy, shots given and date further
shots are required is given (with an adult a full health record should be
given).
9. They suggest to the purchaser that s/he have her/his veterinarian examine
the Klee Kai within 3 days and notify the breeder immediately thereafter if any
problem is apparent. The breeder will attempt to correct or have the problem
corrected where possible.
10. They apply for individual registration or transfer at the time the Klee Kai
leaves for it's new home. In the case of a pet home, a bill of sale shall be
given (a contract with terms is acceptable to fill this requirement) until the
spaying/neutering certificate has been received by the breeder/seller.
11. They do not exhibit any Klee Kai, which has been changed in appearance by
artificial means except for the removal of dewclaws.
12. Anyone involved in breeding must be prepared to re-home any Klee Kai they
have produced. The seller of the Klee Kai (if the stud received a puppy for
stud fee that owner would be responsible) first. Next, the owner of the female
is the responsible party. In some cases this may also be a co-owner. If this is
not possible, the club (KKNKC) must be notified and no Klee Kai shall knowingly
be allowed to be turned over to animal control.
